Literature Text

It was a cloudy Halloween evening, and you were getting ready to hide out in your room from the masses of candy grubbing kids when you received a text from your friend Poland.

Meet us at the old mansion on Hillmark by 6:45

You sighed knowing that if you didn't go there, he would most likely come to your house and drag you out by sheer force. Glancing at the alarm clock on your dresser, it told you that you had five minutes to get going before the hordes would come. Slipping on a pair of sneakers, and grabbing your favorite zip up hoodie, you ran out of your house shouting at your parents that you were going over to a friends house.

--

Dodging little kids left and right, you managed to get to up to the mansion with only a few seconds to spare. You could see your friends Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia standing by the large front gates that helped deter trespassers from entering. Latvia was the first to see you coming and motioned to the other two to get their attention.

"That, like, took you long enough." Poland said slightly angrily.

You rolled your eyes at your friend and dug you chilled hands into the pockets of your hoodie. Poland started to walk along the gate's fence line and the rest of you followed behind. You looked down at Latvia you had fallen behind to walk beside you.

"Is there any reason why we're out here?" you asked the short boy next to you.

Latvia opened his mouth to reply to you but Poland cut him off.

"I like totally read in this one magazine, like, that this mansion here is like, toootally haunted." he said looking over his shoulder back at you.

You raised an eyebrow at your polish friend. "I'm sure that it's lying."

He gaped back at you, "Like ____, really? It has to be totally true! The magazines, like, never lie!"

Everyone's face fell at the blondes' comment.

"P-Poland..." Lithuania started, but his friend ignored him.

"Well anyway, we're like totally going to go in there and see the ghosts!"

You froze mid-step, and the three males in the group turned to you.

"A-are you alright ___?" Latvia asked quietly.

You stood up straight and spun around in the opposite direction laughing as you walked away.

"Look at the time! I totally forgot about something I had to do, bye!"

Poland ran up to you and put you in a head lock and proceeded to drag you where you guys needed to go. There was a gap in the fence but two people couldn't go through at once.

"Looks like you're going to have to let me go if you want to go through there." you said as you smirked up at your captor.

"Lithuania," your smirk faded instantly, "Grab ____'s feet."

You glared at the Lithuanian, and began to squirm to try and avoid being restrained even further. After a few seconds, the Lithuanian had succeeded in getting a firm grip on your ankles, preventing you from kicking him. Carefully, they maneuvered you through the fence and Latvia followed. When you had crossed the side yard, they set you down on the uncut grass. You sat pouting, crossed your arms and legs.

"I'm not moving." you said stubbornly.

Poland started to rummage through a bag that he had slung over his shoulder and produced two torches.

"Whatever, but you know that the first person to leave the group, like totally, gets killed in horror movies." the polish boy said as he handed one of the torches to Latvia.

You blanched, knowing from your horror movie days that he was right. Slowly, you stood up.

"So like, Lithuania and I will go in together, and like you two can go in together." Poland said as he flicked on his torch.

The group walked to the back of the house, to find that the back door was hanging loosely from one of its hinges. Lithuania cast you a apologetic glance as he and Poland entered the gloom. You felt your breathing begin to quicken and it was harder for you to breathe. A tap on your arm caused you to jump; you had forgotten that Latvia was still there with you.

"A-Are you okay ___?"

You tried to speak but nothing came out of your mouth, so you ended up shaking your head no. He grabbed your hand and turned on the torch with the other.

"It's okay, I'll be with you the whole time." he said trying to calm you down.

You nodded and let him lead you into the mansion. It was a large mud room off to the side of the kitchen, and a few old crates were stacked up in the corner. Slowly, Latvia lead you through the kitchen and into what you assumed to be the dining room, since it had a long table draped with a over-sized white sheet. Latvia gave your hand a slight squeeze and smiled reassuringly up at you. It did very little for your nerves, but it was enough.

A few minutes later, you both ended up in the front entryway. As you peered through the dust covered windows, you could barely see the sunsets' light. Suddenly, you walked into a very large spider's web. You let go of Latvia's hand to reach up and claw at your face to remove the sticky silk, all the while stepping backwards. The moment you had backed away two steps, the floor gave a sickening crack. Your eyes flew open and you saw the look of pure horror on Latvia's face. He was starting to reach for you and opened his mouth when the floorboards gave out from underneath you, sending you into the darkness below.

--

Sometime later, you finally returned to reality, and heard your name being called over and over.

"___! ___! Can you hear me?"

You coughed and tried to sit up, knocking a few loose pieces of debris from your body.

"L-latvia?" you called quietly while you rubbed dust from your eyes

A beam of light was shone on you and you looked up at its source. Latvia's head and hand peeked over the edge of what you assumed to be the hole that you caused when you fell through the floor. His eyes shone slightly, and you guessed that he was close to crying.

"A-Are you ok?" he called down.

You moved different parts of your body, they worked and only slightly ached.

"Yeah, I'm ok."

He looked visibly relieved, but then a serious look crossed over his face.

"I-I'm going to come down there and get you ok?"

Your eyes widened in terror, and you stood up.

"NO! Don't leave me here!" you cried.

Latvia frowned, "But if I don't, who will come to find you?"

You felt the tears begin to form at the corners of your eyes, but you nodded in agreement. Latvia's head popped out of view and the sound of cloth rustling could be heard. He reappeared, holding his red jacket in his hand.

"You can hold onto this until I get down there ok?" he said as he dropped it down the hole to you. "I'll try to be quick."

You caught it and sat down on the floor, and listened to his disappearing footsteps. The light was completely gone and you were surrounded by darkness.

--

Time seemed to have stopped completely and occasionally you could hear the plink of water come from somewhere nearby. You shivered slightly, and covered your head with Latvia's jacket. You could smell the faint traces of vodka on it, but you didn't care. You curled up into the fetal position and buried your head in your arms.

"Latvia... Where are you?" you whispered to the darkness around you.

--

You must have fallen asleep because when you awoke, Latvia was kneeling in front of you while shaking your shoulders. You blinked and then the hysteria started to set in. You flung yourself onto him and buried your face in the crook of his neck. You felt him stiffen underneath you, but then relax as he wrapped his arms around you.

"I-I t-thought that y-you were going t-to leave me-!" you sobbed into his shoulder.

Latvia started to rub your back, trying his best to comfort you.

"I would never do that to the person I l-" but a sound of pure horror cut him off. You both stiffened and listened to it.

Kol... Kol... Kol...

You felt Latvia begin to tremble beneath you. The heavy thud of shoes could be heard from behind you. Then something kicked you in your rear, causing you and Latvia to scream your heads off. A few seconds later you could hear laughter, and you let go of Latvia to look behind you. Poland was doubled over laughing while Lithuania stood holding their torch.

"Like, oh mai gawd, did you totally hear that?" Poland sniggered. "They were totally screaming like little girls!"

You glared fiercely at the two males and pulled Latvia up to stand next to you.

"That wasn't funny." Latvia said as he started to pull his jacket back on.

"Yes it was, and you know it!" Poland retorted back.

Lithuania cleared his throat, "Let's go home shall we?"

--

As the four of you exited the mansion, you walked over to Latvia and grabbed his hand. He looked up at you blushing majorly.

"So what were you going to say earlier before that jerk Poland scared the crap out of us?" you asked quietly.

"I-I w-was go-going to... uh-" he looked away from you.

You leaned over and pecked him on the cheek.

"I love you Latvia, and not just for coming down and saving me back there."

He looked back at you with the cutest expression on his face. He reached up and pulled your face down to his and kissed you on your lips, causing you to blush as well.

"Es arī tevi mīlu."[1]

I find it hilarious that Latvia is a year older than me (it says he's 15 on the wikia page) and I'm almost a whole foot taller than him.
